Day Eight: Dublin ☘️

For our final day in Ireland, we headed first to revisit the Guinness Storehouse . We went 10 years ago and they’ve made so many cool updates since then. One of our favorites was at the display about the water they use for the beer. Steve will try to attach a video of it that because it was a waterfall that they somehow made look like the Guinness harp and bottles. Our feet were wearing out, so we took a taxi to the Taste of Dublin . Our Chicago friends should know there wasn’t a turkey leg or Eli’s cheesecake in sight. We had a brisket spring roll, African chicken and rice, and pasta arrabiatta with buratta and cheese. Very bougie for a street fair! From there, we wandered over to Trinity College to get Katey a new t-shirt from there. We caught the tram back to our hotel. We had about an hour’s break back at the hotel before we went for a decidedly not Irish dinner of steak frites at this amazing place called PHX Bistro .  With one last chance for trad musi...

Day Seven: Slán go fóill, Galway!

Slán go fóill, Galway! “Bye for now, Galway!” To say goodbye to Galway, we decided to head back for some delicious pancakes at Pascal Pancakes before checking out of the hotel and catching our train to Dublin.  True to form here in Ireland, our train departed exactly at its scheduled time of 1:05. (Katey absolutely loves this care for schedules) We settled in for the 2.5-hour ride back east to Dublin, and a little way into the trip, an older gentleman across the aisle got Katey’s attention. He either asked her for some gum or to wake him up when we arrived in Doolin. ?? When we were in Northern Ireland ten years ago, we found that even though they spoke English, we could barely understand them. (At one restaurant, the server said something to us and Steve said “Oh we speak English" and the guy was like “I am speaking English.” 😂) Ten years later, we’ve found even here in the Republic of Ireland we have trouble understanding folks who have heavy Irish accents....
